What for: this oil has the ability to soothing and softening your skin; it also repairs your skin barrier by increasing ceramide levels and it has an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect.

CALENDULA OFFICINALIS FLOWER EXTRACT 

Function: it soothes 

Origin: from marigold flowers

What for: super-hero for sensitive skin

.It has antibacterial activity so it helps with acne and eczema-prone skin

.It's an antioxidant and helps your skin fight free radicals

GLYCERIN - GLYCEROL

Function: humectant

Origin: from rapeseed and sustainable palm oil 

What for: This oldie but goodie ingredient has been used in cosmetics for more than 50 years. It's an humectant, it absorbs water from the air, thus helping the skin retain its natural moisture. We can say then that glycerin acts as an indirect moisturiser. It can also be found naturally in your skin.

HELLIANTHUS ANNUS SEED CERA - SUNFLOWER WAX

Function: emollient

Origin: sunflower seeds

What for: this wax smoothes and softens your skin. This hard wax is also used to keep sticky type formulas, such as lip balms, solid.

OLEA EUROPAEA FRUIT OIL - OLIVE OIL

Function: emollient and antioxidant 

Origin: from olives

What for: olive oil is loaded with fatty acids such as oleic acid (55-83%), linoleic acid (3.5-20%) and palmitic acid (7-20%). These fatty acids make olive oil a great option to moisturise and nourish your skin (emollient ), specially if it's on the dry side. Olive oil also contains antioxidants such as tocopherols, polyphenols and more!

PERSEA GRATISSIMA OIL - AVOCADO OIL 

Function: emollient and antioxidant 

Origin: from avocados

What for: avocado oil is rich on glycerides of oleic, linoleic and palmitic acid. This oil is very rich and has a soothing and highly moisturising effect on your skin, so it's the perfect choice for dry and sensitive skin! It also contains vitamins A, D and E and because of the last one, we can also say that avocado oil has antioxidant activity.

RICINUS COMMUNIS SEED OIL - CASTOR OIL 

Function: emollient

Origin: castor seeds from Ricinus Communis plant 

What for: this oldie but goodie is rich on ricinoleic glycerids, so it smoothes and softens (emollient) your skin while it increases water content on it!

RHUS VERNICIFLUA PEEL CERA - BERRY FRUIT WAX

Function: emollient

What for: this wax helps to soothe and smooth your skin

Function: protective film former

Origin: sal trees

What for: this resin forms a film on your skin to keep it protected and avoid water loss. It also has wound and scar healing properties.

What for: ascorbyl palmitate is a form of Vitamin C that acts avoiding the oxidation of oils in the formula

EMOLLIENTS

CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE

Origin: from coconut oil and sustainable palm oil 

What for: this ingredient is a very common emollient aka it soothes and smoothes your skin so you can feel it nice and soft. Its superpower? It doesn't leave that greasy feeling in your skin, so you can smooth it without it without feeling sticky!

CETEARYL ALCOHOL 

Function: In addition to being an emollient, this ingredient is a co-emulsifier and a viscosity controller. 

Origin: from sustainable palm oil, sustainable palm kernel, coconut and eruca oil 

What for: this ingredient gives your skin a soft touch while it smoothes it (emollient). It also helps to mix oil with water (co-emulsifier) and gives body to creams and lotions by controlling their viscosity.

CETYL PALMITATE

Origin:  from sustainable palm oil 

What for: this white and waxy ingredient is an emollient used to give "body" to your cosmetics by increasing their viscosity. It's similar to cetearyl palmitate.

COCO-CAPRYLATE/CAPRATE

Origin: from coconut and sustainable palm oil 

What for: this ingredient soothes and smoothes your skin leaving a dry but silky finish on it.

EMULSIFIERS

CETEARYL OLIVATE

Origin: from sustainable palm oil and olive oil 

What for: this ingredient is an olive oil derived (from olive oil fatty acids and cetearyl alcohol to form this ester). Its main function is helping to mix oil with water (emulsifier) but it also helps to avoid TEWL, aka trans-epidermal water loss, aka it helps to avoid water loss from your skin to keep it hydrated and pampered!

GLYCERYL LAURATE

Function: in addition to being an emulsifier, this ingredient also acts as an emollient 

Origin: from sustainable palm oil 

What for: this ingredient comes from the reaction between glycerin and lauric acid. It helps to mix oil with water on formulations but it also acts as an emollient leaving your skin nice and smooth.

SORBITAN OLIVATE 

Origin:  from sustainable palm oil and olive oil 

What for: this ingredient is a derivative from sorbitol and fatty acids from olive oil. It helps to mix oil with water in your cosmetics' formulations.

SUCROSE POLYSTEARATE

Function: in addition to being an emulsifier, this ingredient also acts as a skin conditioner

Origin: partially natural from sugar 

What for: this ingredient helps to mix oil with water while it maintains skin in a good condition.

SURFACTANTS

COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE

Origin:  partially natural from coconut oil 

What for: 

.It produces foam and stabilises the bubbles

.It gently cleanses your skin 

It works better when combined with other surfactants. This ingredient is biodegradable so you can have guilt-free bubbles.

DECYL GLUCOSIDE

Function: in addition to being a skin cleanser, this ingredient is also an emulsion stabiliser 

Origin:  from sustainable palm oil, wheat and corn 

What for: we use this ingredient as a mild skin cleanser that has the ability to create some bubbles. Another reason to love it? It's biodegradable so you can have guilt free bubbles everyday!

DISODIUM COCOYL GLUTAMATE 

Function: non-ionic surfactant, skin cleanser 

Origin:  from coconut and sustainable palm oil 

What for: this ingredient is a non-ionic surfactant which means it gently cleanses your skin

OTHER 

BENZOIC ACID

Function: preservative 

Origin: non-natural, approved by Ecocert®️ 

What for: this ingredient is a preservative which prevents the growth of nasty bacteria in your cosmetics. It’s a gentle and non-irritant ingredient, and approved for use in natural cosmetics by COSMOS Ecocert ®️, one thing less to worry about.

CITRIC ACID

Function: buffer, ph regulator

Origin: from corn 

What for: this ingredient is used to adjust the formula's pH to the skin's pH (5.5)

DEHYDROACETIC ACID

Function:  preservative 

Origin: Non -natura, approved by Ecocert®️

What for: this ingredient prevents the growth of nasty bacteria and fungus in your cosmetics. It's a gentle and non-irritant ingredient, and approved for use in natural cosmetics by Cosmos Ecocert®️. One thing less to worry about.

GUAR HYDROXYPROPYLTRIMONIUM CHLORIDE

Function: viscosity agent 

Origin:  partially natural from guar seeds 

What for: this ingredient is a derivative from guar gum and it's used to increase viscosity on formulations helping also to enhance formulation's stability

Where can you find it:

Facial cleansing gel

XANTHAM GUM 

Function: viscosity agent 

Origin: from fermented sugar molecules 

What for: this biologically derived gum is a thickener that is used to control viscosity in your creams and lotions. By controlling viscosity it stabilises the formulation too because it prevents the separation of the emulsion into two different phases.
